All about me

Karen McDowell has been performing elegant violin music for weddings and receptions for over 25 years.  She holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degree (with Highest Honors) in Music Performance.  Her teachers included renowned instructor and author Ivan Galamian (of the Juilliard School of Music), Dr. John Ferrell (Indiana University and University of Arizona School of Music), and Emily Austin (Detroit Symphony).

A sought after violinist for weddings and events, you can see Karen in and around town performing with various musical groups including the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Montomery, and Tuscaloosa Symphonies, Birmingham Opera, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Town and Gown, and at City Stages, fund raisers and private events.  One of the most memorable occasions was her performance in the Vatican for a Sunday service.  Karen performs solo violin for weddings and special occasions, but also plays with an established string quartet.  Her string quartet was voted “the most noteworthy debut group” at Birmingham’s City Stages by Nancy Raabe of the Birmingham News.   Karen is an enthusiastic teacher and teaches private violin & piano students, water fitness and yoga classes ( Samford after Sundown).  And she is a beekeeper too.  (“Over the Mountain Honey” is available at Tria Market in SOHO.)
